There are sixty thousand primary hip replacements carried out in the UK every
year. This CD is aimed at Orthopaedic Surgeons across the world, especially
those in training. "Primary Hip Arthroplasty" covers all aspects
required for primary Total Hip Arthroplasty, from the patient's first visit to
outpatients clinic through the pre-operative planning phase and the surgical
procedure itself, utilising both lateral and posterior approaches. The
prosthesis illustrated in this CD is the "Stanmore Hip" manufactured
by Biomet Merck Ltd., which was first inserted in the early 1960's and is one of
the three gold standard prostheses on the market with the longest follow-up.
This comprehensive CD incorporates 3D animations of instrumentation and
procedure alongside operative video fully complemented with digital images and
text. Also featured is 3D animation of the anatomy of the hip.
This is the first in a series of surgical CD's under the title "Orthopaedics
in Action". Our next title will be Primary Knee Arthroplasty, which will be
available later this year. Other titles planned are "Revision Hip",
"Revision Knee" and Spinal Surgery.
